The Sweetness of Doing Nothing
at casa portal, “doing nothing” isn’t a lack of activity—it’s the art of being present.
there’s a beauty in unhurried mornings, in hearing the kettle whistle while the sun pours over the meadow. the world tells us to move faster, accomplish more, fill every moment. but here, we ask you to slow down. we had to slow ourselves down and we still work on this everyday.
when pete and i moved here, i had to unlearn the idea that my worth was tied to how much i could do in a day. sitting on the porch with coffee, just watching the light shift across the pasture, felt strange at first, like i only had 5 minutes to do this and what’s next—but now it feels essential. I miss it when I don’t take the time to carve it out.
we are trying to listen to nature’s rhythm—farm-fresh meals, time with our navajo-churro sheep, and moments of intentional stillness. we love to see what guests choose when they visit…some solitude: some reading on the porch, walking the trails, or listening to the fire crackle. others gather around the table, sharing stories with like-minded souls. and everybody naps. I love that everybody takes the time to nap.
we truely welcome everybody here to do nothing…on purpose and see what that awakens.
